Uric Acid Test in Serum

The uric acid test in serum is used to measure the amount of uric acid present in the blood. Uric acid is a byproduct of the breakdown of purines, substances found in certain foods and drinks such as red meat, seafood, and alcohol. This test can help diagnose and monitor conditions such as gout, kidney diseases, or other metabolic disorders.

Preparation for the Test:

1. Usually, no special preparation is required for this test.
2. It is recommended to perform the test in the morning on an empty stomach.
3. The day before the test, avoid fatty and fried foods, alcohol, smoking, and stress.
4. Prescription medications can usually be taken as normal, but do not take over-the-counter medications without consulting your doctor beforehand. In some cases, your doctor may suggest stopping certain medications before the test.
5. It is not recommended to perform blood tests after X-rays or physiotherapy procedures on the same day.
6. Dynamic evaluation of a laboratory test should be performed at the same time of day as the previous test.
