Pancreatic Amylase Analysis in Serum

The analysis of pancreatic amylase in serum is used to measure the level of this enzyme in the blood. Amylase is an enzyme produced primarily by the pancreas and salivary glands and is essential for carbohydrate digestion. The test is often used to diagnose and monitor pancreatic conditions.

Preparation for the Investigation

• It is recommended to perform the analysis in the morning on an empty stomach.
• The day before the investigation, exclude: fatty and fried foods, alcohol, smoking, and stress.
• You can take your prescribed medications as usual, but do not take over-the-counter medications without consulting your doctor first. In some cases, the doctor may suggest stopping certain medications before the blood test.
• Performing blood tests after X-rays or physiotherapy procedures on the same day is not recommended.
• Dynamic evaluation of a laboratory test should be performed at the same time of day as the previous test.
