Bilirubin is a yellow-brown pigment that is produced during the normal breakdown of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in the blood.
Laboratory tests are conducted at the doctor's indication when pathology is suspected.
The Complex Profile includes the test for three types of bilirubin:
- Total bilirubin in serum
- Direct bilirubin in serum
- Indirect bilirubin in serum
Preparation for the investigation:
Blood sample collection can be done between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, after a 12-hour fasting period.
- The day before the investigation, exclude: fatty and fried food, alcohol, smoking, and stress.
- Inform the doctor about any medications being taken.
- Performing blood tests on the same day after an X-ray or physiotherapy procedures is not recommended.
*In case of emergency, tests can be collected at any time of the day until 3:00 PM.
The result is issued on the same day.
