Candida albicans is a type of fungus normally found in the human body but can cause infections when there is an imbalance in bacterial flora or the immune system. The DNA test provides a sensitive and accurate method for diagnosing Candida infections.

When is this test recommended?
The test is recommended in the following cases:

• Persistent symptoms of fungal infection, such as itching, redness, unusual vaginal discharge (in the case of vaginal infections), or pain and inflammation in other parts of the body.
• Recurrent Candida infections.
• Evaluation of treatment effectiveness in cases of candidiasis.
• People with weakened immune systems (e.g., diabetes, HIV, or corticosteroid treatments), who are more susceptible to fungal infections.

Preparation for the Candida albicans DNA test:
Within 72 hours before sample collection, avoid:

• Sexual intercourse.
• Vaginal douching.
• Using vaginal treatments (gels, creams, contraceptives, disinfectants, lubricants, tampons).
• Any vaginal procedures (e.g., vaginal examination).

It is recommended to collect the sample outside the menstrual period (ideally in the middle of the menstrual cycle).
