The transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) of the prostate is a high-precision imaging technique used to visualize the anatomical structures surrounding the prostate gland. It allows detection of small lesions and early-stage changesthat may not be visible through other imaging methods. This examination is recommended in the presence of urinary symptoms or sexual dysfunction.
The procedure enables evaluation of:
Prostate gland – size, shape, tissue structure
Subtle or early-stage lesions
Seminal vesicles – inflammation or abnormalities
Irregular prostate margins or signs of chronic prostatitis or BPH
Preparation for the examination:
A few hours prior to the exam, the rectum must be cleared to allow proper visualization. It is recommended to use:
A cleansing enema with 1.5 liters of cold water
Or rectal suppositories with a laxative effect
Wear loose-fitting clothing for comfort during the procedure.
