GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase) – Serum Test for Liver and Bile Duct Function is an important enzyme involved in amino acid metabolism, mainly associated with the liver and biliary tract.

Reasons to perform the GGT test:

Liver function evaluation – GGT is commonly used to detect liver conditions, especially when combined with other liver function tests

Diagnosis of biliary obstruction – Elevated levels may indicate blockages in the bile ducts

Monitoring alcohol consumption – GGT can be a marker for excessive alcohol use and alcohol-related liver damage

Preparation for the test:

The test is recommended to be performed in the morning, on an empty stomach

The day before the test, avoid:

Fatty and fried foods

Alcohol

Smoking

Stress

Prescribed medications may be continued, but avoid self-medication without consulting a doctor

Do not perform blood tests after physiotherapy or radiological procedures on the same day

For follow-up comparisons, it is recommended to do the test at the same hour of the day as the previous one
