(HbA1c) Glycated hemoglobin in the blood

The HbA1c test is used to assess long-term blood sugar control in people with diabetes and to help diagnose diabetes.

Reasons for testing:

Diabetes diagnosis: Helps detect type 2 diabetes and prediabetes.

Diabetes monitoring: Evaluates how well the treatment is managing blood glucose over the past 2–3 months.

Complications risk assessment: High HbA1c levels may indicate an increased risk of diabetes-related complications.

How to prepare for the HbA1c test:

No fasting required – you can eat and drink water before the test.

The test can be done at any time of day.

If you are taking medication for diabetes or other conditions, continue your treatment as usual, but inform the doctor about any medicines you're using.

Let the medical staff know if you have had recent infections or if you are pregnant, as these may slightly affect the results.
