Tumor markers are substances, mostly proteins, that are produced by the tumor cells themselves or sometimes by the human body in response to the presence of tumor cells.

These substances can be detected in blood, urine, or tissue samples and can be used alongside other tests and investigative procedures for the diagnosis of certain types of cancer. They can predict or help monitor the response to certain oncological treatments and also aid in the early detection of a disease recurrence.

The Women's Oncological Profile includes several tests that allow the detection of an increased number of specific oncological markers for female cancer pathologies:

• (AFP) Alpha-Fetoprotein
• CA 125 (ovarian cancer)
• CA 15-3 (breast cancer)
• CA 19-9 (pancreatic cancer)
• (CEA) Carcinoembryonic Antigen
• CA 72-4 (gastric cancer)

Preparation for the investigation: 

1. Blood sample collection can be done between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, after a 12-hour fasting period.
2. The day before the investigation, exclude: fatty and fried food, alcohol, smoking, and stress.
3. Inform the doctor about any medications being taken.
4. Performing blood tests on the same day after an X-ray or physiotherapy procedures is not recommended.
5. If monitoring through serial testing, samples should be collected at the same time of day as the previous test

 The result is issued on the same day.

Final interpretation is provided by the attending physician or a specialist, considering the patient's medical history and clinical picture.
