Vitamins and minerals play important roles in maintaining health. A person suffering from vitamin deficiency has symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale skin, irregular heartbeat, numbness of the fingers, muscle weakness, mood swings, lack of concentration, and mineral deficiency can cause symptoms such as diarrhea or constipation, bloating, weakening of the immune system, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, irregular heart beat, muscle cramps, tingling in the extremities, fatigue and lack of concentration.
To determine the level of vitamins and minerals the doctor recommends regular blood tests, asks for information about the patient’s usual diet and family history regarding certain diseases or vitamin or mineral deficiencies. They also recommend necessary tests and measurement of electrolytes in the blood.
Often, to balance the state of health, the patient will receive recommendations for correcting the diet or taking vitamin and mineral supplements. The important thing, however, is early detection, which involves regular annual check-ups.
