384-slice CT of abdomen without contrast

384-Slice CT Scan of the Abdomen without Contrast is an advanced imaging examination used to evaluate the abdominal organs and surrounding structures. It is recommended for patients with abdominal or back pain, digestive symptoms, changes in bowel habits, gallbladder or kidney stones, blood in the urine or stool, abdominal trauma, or suspected abdominal masses such as tumors or abscesses.

In emergency and trauma cases, the examination can identify injuries to solid organs (such as the liver, spleen, or kidneys), internal bleeding, and injuries to hollow organs that may result in free air within the abdominal cavity (pneumoperitoneum).

What is examined?

A non-contrast 384-Slice CT scan of the abdomen provides detailed visualization of both hollow organs, including the stomach, small and large intestines, and gallbladder, as well as solid organs, including the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, and other abdominal structures. The examination evaluates the anatomical relationships between the abdominal organs and helps identify a wide range of pathological changes.

Preparation for the examination

A 384-Slice CT scan of the abdomen without contrast requires special preparation.

1–2 days before the examination:

• Follow a low-residue diet. Avoid high-fiber foods such as cabbage, fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole-grain or rye bread, dairy products, and carbonated beverages.

On the day of the examination:

• Do not eat for 3–4 hours before your appointment. Water is generally allowed unless your physician advises otherwise.

After the examination, patients can immediately resume their normal daily activities unless instructed otherwise by their physician.

Computed Tomography (CT) uses X-rays. Therefore, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, this examination can only be performed with a written medical referral.
